Big Sur International Marathon Wonderful scenery, brutal course. Participated 2 times and very sore legs both times.

Death Ride Must do for anyone interested in cycling. Incredible support, incredible scenery. From the deserts to the mountains and much in between. Match it up with a few days' hiking in the mountains around Lake Tahoe and you'll never want to go home.

Death Valley Marathon Run 2 years now and moved to the alternate course both times due to adverse weather. Hope to return in 2011 to run the original course.

Indoorman Wild and crazy DEADs go for it in the gloom and cold of winter.

Ironman Canada Participated 1988, 1992 (Hawaii qualification), 1995, 1997 (personal best; Hawaii qualification), 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010. Close to home. A premier event. Sign up/view DEADs at IMC

Ironman Hawaii The grand-daddy of them all and highly over rated. Go to paradise and enjoy the beach, the snorkeling, the scenery and leave the sweating to others.

Ironman New Zealand Participated 1990 when in Auckland. Beautiful urban course. Moved farther south now.

Mercer Island Half Marathon Many years raced. Always near my birthday. Always tough.

RAMROD How could I miss this one in my own back yard? A day of amazing scenery and challenging climbs, once you get past that initial warm-up to the park. Always best when ridden with companions.

Resolution Run Series Get going on a new year. Four races from winter to spring. Series age group award winner a couple of times.

Seattle Marathon Post Thanksgiving calorie burner. Many times half marathon, never full.

Sunflower Relay Spring race. Always run solo. Now at a marathon distance. The only time of the year to connect all these points on foot.
